Countertop Register: Point of Sale

Counter POS is the fullscreen till at /pos. It is built for retail counters, farm stands, cafés, and showrooms — anywhere the buyer is standing in front of you and pays now.

This guide walks through how clerks run a sale, how you turn the module on, and how to wire a Stripe Reader so card money lands on the same sales orders and invoices as your web store and desk sales.

One till screen for the shift. Same customers, products, and paid invoices your back office already trusts.

What Counter POS is

Use Counter POS when the buyer is at your counter and pays now. A clerk attaches a customer (or Walk-up), adds products and services, then takes cash or card.

When the sale posts, inveazy creates a sales order and a paid invoice. That is the same document path as storefront and desk channels, so inventory, AR, and QuickBooks stay consistent.

It is a fullscreen till with no hub sidenav — clerks stay in one screen for the shift. It is not the public web store, not desk-entered sales orders, and not Assets Tracking dock inspection.

Turn it on

A TenantAdmin enables the module under Admin → Integrations → Applications. Turn on Counter POS (pos), then give clerk roles permission to open it.

Open the till from the Hub Apps tile, or from the phone-scanner launcher when that is allowed.

Admins configure tax, tips, walk-ups, hold tickets, product layout, services menus, and returns under Settings on the till. Clerks stay on Customer, Products, Services, Pay, Hold, and Returns.

Tip: Only Admins change Settings. Keep the till simple for the people ringing sales.

A typical sale

Start with the customer. Search by phone or email and attach the match. When Allow walk-up customers is on, use Walk-up for a quick tab without a full account.

Add lines next. Scan or search products, and tap Services menus for non-SKU items such as labor, delivery, or café add-ons.

Before pay, you can apply a discount, add shipping for a registered customer with a ship-to ZIP, or Hold the ticket for later.

Open Pay for cash on the Pay panel, or Card on a Stripe Reader. Cash tips stay on the Pay panel. Card tips appear on the reader when Accept tips is on. Then email or print the receipt and move to the next customer.

On iPad, the hamburger opens an overlay drawer instead of an icon rail. The ticket stays hidden until a customer is attached, or until held tickets exist so you can resume Open tickets.

Prefer the S710

Card on the till uses Stripe Terminal (server-driven card present). Use Chrome, Edge, or Safari on the till device.

When purchase prices are equal, buy the S710. It does everything the S700 does for a fixed counter, and it adds optional 4G/LTE cellular. That matters for mobile businesses — farmers markets, pop-ups, service trucks — and as failover when Wi‑Fi drops.

The S700 is Wi‑Fi and Ethernet only. Cellular is a Stripe add-on, commonly about $10/month per reader for ~10 GB when enabled (confirm on Stripe Terminal pricing). Leave cellular off on a fixed counter with solid Wi‑Fi or Hub Ethernet.

Prefer S710  ·  Same keys as storefront + invoice pay links

You do not need a separate Terminal API key or Terminal webhook in Integrations. Use the same commerce secret and publishable keys as invoices and the web store. Online Checkout webhooks still matter for the store and invoice pay links. Card status on the till is driven by the app, not by Terminal-specific webhook events.

How the till and reader connect

The iPad and the reader do not pair to each other. Both talk to Stripe over the internet. The till calls inveazy; inveazy tells Stripe to charge the online reader; the customer taps, inserts, or swipes on the device.

That means they do not need the same Wi‑Fi network. Each device only needs a reliable path to Stripe. For mobile work, an iPad on cellular plus an S710 with Stripe cellular can run without a hotspot.

Configure readers step by step

1. Commerce keys

Open Admin → Integrations → Payments. Enter your Stripe publishable and secret keys — test keys to practice, live keys for production.

Save the usual Checkout and invoice webhook signing secret if you take online pay. Card on the till will not work without the API keys.

2. Location in Stripe Dashboard

Sign in to the Stripe Dashboard in the same mode as your keys (test or live). Open Stripe Terminal → Locations and create a Location for the store or counter. Readers register to a Location.

3. Register the reader

Power on the reader and give it internet. Use store Wi‑Fi, optional Hub plus Ethernet (the reader prefers Ethernet when plugged in), or — on the S710 only — Stripe cellular enabled on the Location. There is no separate carrier SIM for the reader; Stripe bills cellular usage.

In Dashboard → Terminal → Readers, register the device with the pairing or registration code on the reader screen. Confirm the reader shows as online.

Field tip: A travel router still helps on guest Wi‑Fi. For a fixed counter, Hub plus Ethernet on the reader is often cleaner than fighting wireless.

4. Take a card payment

On the till, attach a customer, add lines, and open Pay → Card. If one reader is online, the till uses it automatically. If two or more are online, the clerk picks one (the choice is remembered for the session).

The customer taps, inserts, or swipes. When Accept tips is on, the tip screen appears on the reader after the charge amount. On success, the till posts the sales order and paid invoice, and can email or print the receipt.

Practice without hardware

Use a test secret key on the tenant. Tap Card — inveazy can register a simulated S700 or S710 if none are online, and present a test card (Visa 4242…) for you. With Accept tips on, the simulation can include a sample tip so receipts look realistic.

Tips and barcodes

When Accept tips is on, inveazy updates the Stripe account-default Terminal Configuration with your tip percent presets so the reader tip UI appears. Treat till Settings tip presets as the source of truth for the counter.

Barcode scanners should act as a keyboard (HID wedge) into the Products scan box. They are separate from the Stripe reader.

Remember

Enable Counter POS, set till Settings for your counter, put commerce keys under Integrations → Payments, and register an S710 (or S700) to a Stripe Location. Then Pay → Card.
